INITIAL DISCOVERY

After the integrated database is built a mutual discovery process begins where OCI and the customer work together to gain a better understanding of what the data is saying about population health, population behavior, vendor performance comparison, and financial performance. OCI begins with a standard discovery analysis that evaluates over 20 performance indicators to provide an overall, macro level view of the information, while looking for the top 3 to 5 watch areas that show the most opportunity for improvement. These proprietary indicators are selected based on the on the data types available in the integrated database. In addition to the OCI performance indicators OCI fulfills ad hoc requests from the customer during this same timeframe to answer customer-specific questions. The discovery process is iterative and interactive in nature. Early answers and increased knowledge lead to new questions and further investigation. As each new avenue opens up the team assesses the depth of the investigation required to answer the questions and determines whether to push it to a more in-depth analytic project or to include it in this discovery phase. Those issues that require more than monitoring are passed into a second round of investigation.

Identification of the greatest opportunities creates a logical close to this initial discovery phase and the team moves into implementation of the ongoing measurement and monitoring toolset. However, discovery is never completed and continues in a parallel path to facilitate continuous knowledge improvement and subsequently a broader reporting toolset.
