OCI AND VERIZON TO PRESENT EARLY REFERRAL TOOL AT NATIONAL 
BENEFITS CONFERENCE 

DENVER, Colorado – OCI and Verizon are collaborating to present a detailed look at OCI’s risk forecasting
and early referral tool at the 20th Annual Benefits Management Forum & Expo, Sept 16-18 in Dallas. 
 
The joint presentation is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 17. OCI President Dan Blaney, and
Stephanie Zweben, Verizon corporate human resources director for benefits strategy and design, are
scheduled to present. 
 
The session, entitled “Using Corporate Data to Predict Risk and Control Costs,” will explore the components
of OCI’s risk forecasting model, as well as how the model can be used to effectively manage benefits.  The 
session will also present a case study of Verizon’s early experience with the forecasting approach.  
 
“Reporting on historical claims experience is powerful, but it offers only a retrospective view,” Blaney said.
“The goal of OCI’s forecasting approach is to look forward, and to provide Verizon with the information
necessary to deliver the right interventions to the right people at the right time – to identify opportunities
where targeted management can make a difference, before risk becomes high cost.” 
   
In addition to a discussion of the design and implementation of the risk forecasting model, the session will
offer practical suggestions for handling the challenges of implementing such a program, including building
the business case and overcoming skepticism.
